What is the policy on posting a compilation of live shows of an artist?... I have a couple compilations that I have put together or have downloaded of approved artists that I think would be great additions to the archive...

if I remember correctly this was discussed previously and some admins had said it wasnt appropriate for "compialtions" to be included as the site in its current form doesnt really allow for that.

Why not just get the entire show from which each song is taken and upload those?

Yes, this still holds true. The LMA indexes items primarily by band, and then by date. Using these to file compilations will make them difficult to find, so I don't think we're ready to add them. (more on this in those links below) We would prefer full length, uncut, concert recordings in this section.

Here are the pertinent threads...

From one user's perspective, I'd tend not to want compilations hosted here, only because 99% of them contain either studio material (which isn't allowed here) or all live cuts (which are already available through other means, and hence duplicate what's already here).

not exactly sure, but I know that there are 4 or 5 compilation discs up for the disco biscuits, but those were through approved uploaders

Ok, those aren't in the LMA section. Specifically, we're concerned about them being listed here:

http://www.archive.org/audio/etreelisting-browse.php?collection=etree&cat=Disco%20Biscuits

Where they would be catalogued by date.

In the OSA section, that is not the case. As far as I know, it's fine to put them in there, but permission needs to be granted by the artist. In the case of the Disco Biscuits, all of the uploaders work with their archivist, so we know those 5 you listed are ok.
